Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great printer for the price
This is a great little printer for the price. I have a laptop hooked up as well as a desktop and the printer is great for both. I am very pleased with my purchase

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This Time, It's Slick Success. Maybe Next Time, It'll be Protocol Prime.
* I can't think of how I could be more pleased with my HP Deskjet J4580. When I bought mine (10/7/08), Amazon was offering it at an awesome special price (with one of those \"click to see price\" links) with Super Saver Shipping... Even on the SSS the printer was delivered only 3 days after I ordered it (10/10/08)!

When I clicked to see the price markdown, I was so flabbergasted my first thought was that maybe the low price was because this printer is not \"wired\" for wireless, and and/or because it didn't come with the USB cable included (a packing lack which quite a few buyers noted not being pleased with). I decided I didn't need a wireless printer anyway, thinking I might have trouble with installation since I know nothing about wireless protocol (I barely know the word protocol).

(I did buy a wireless mouse and love it! Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 - Slate)

It appears my instincts were right, at least for me, because I just read some of the reviews for another HP printer, a model number up from mine (J6480 instead of J4580), and it sounds like quite a few people have had trouble getting the drivers to work with wireless protocol. And most of these reviewers were tech savvy ethers beyond me, a person who always thought protocol arrived into reality with my beloved nephew Lonnie, an ex marine who described what protocol means in that branch of the military. They know how to apply that word to its Nth degree. As a clumsy dyslectic, I admire anyone who can shine in any branch of the military.

With my J4580, I easily, quickly, and successfully followed the instructions which came in the box, all the while thanking the other reviewers of that model who reminded purchasers to buy a separate USB cable. I bought the Belkin Pro Series USB 2.0 Device Cable (USB A/USB B, 10 Feet) which I'm absolutely pleased with, and was again helped by the reviews posted on Amazon's buying page.

Everything on the printer works with a slick ease which has me feeling like a sort of semi-pro myself. This is the first time I've had a simple FAX machine which works either separately from or with my PC. With my previous HP (which I also loved and it still works but I wanted to upgrade for speed, capacity, and general purposes), I had tried repeatedly, unsuccessfully (phone bills to prove it), to use FAX programs within my PC, so this new setup is a joy!

Of course wouldn't you know it that I would wait to get this FAX setup about the time I might consider changing to cell phones only, without a land line, which would make this FAX non functional...

OH! So that's why the wireless FAX capacity is becoming the thing now!

Oh well, by the time I get rid of my land line, if I do, maybe the wireless FAX All-in-One machines will have fixed the driver snarls. And maybe I'll know more about wireless protocol by then... if I'm still alive.

For now, I have just what I want, and am thankful for that link on the buying page from the printer I had been looking at to this one I bought. The link said that a newer model was now available. And that newer model (due to the Amazon special price then) was $40 cheaper and several ways better than the older one!

Even at the current discounts available on this printer, which (at the time of my review post) weren't as good as the discount I got, I would purchase this printer again.

Another similar printer, non-wireless, which I would also consider, is the HP Officejet 6310 All-in-One Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier (Q8061A#ABA)

NOTE: I've posted my review on the 6310 model's buying page, as well as on the buying page for the J4580. All things considered, at the time I posted this review I would buy the 6310, since it is now (11/13/08) offered by Amazon on a similar special to the one I got on 10/7/08 on the J4580.

I enjoy shopping on Amazon, cruising for those specials offered regularly. That research takes a bit of time, including reading reviews, but I enjoy that type of browsing, so I'm a satisfied customer every-which-way.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Works Great!!!
I purchased this printer about a month ago. It is great. Prints well, easy to use. I like the feature that let's you test the fax to see if you have a dial tone and it's ready to send and receive faxes. My wife used it to print some photos and some invitations. Had no problems at all.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Sure Wish The Scanner Worked
* Fairly good product. Getting it to Bluetooth with my computer was a bit more complex. It had to be completed manually using the printer's \"address number.\"

Having no luck getting the \"all in one\" to be an \"all in one\"...I have not had any luck what-so-ever, getting the machine to SCAN!

also, it NEEDS a dust cover! [should be included]. ...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great for personal use
This is a great printer for someone who only needs something for personal use. If you need something for school or work, this isn't something that is meant to hold up to everyday constant printing or copying. I have a laser printer for that. I use this for faxing and occasional copying and scanning, with the printing for sometime color jobs, sometimes pictures, which works wonderfully. Inkjets suck up ink - it's a fact. You can get printers for the cost of cartridges now - so if you pick out an all-in-one, make sure that's what you need - that's what I did. I love it!

Major Brand Electronics Reviews

Canon's XH A1 and XH G1 are excellent camcorders for entry-level professionals and independent filmmakers, with hard-to-beat prices for what they offer.

Though it has a few design and performance glitches, the Sony Ericsson W300i is a quality, basic MP3 cell phone.

Thanks to a rich set of features and some great new additions, Evite maintains its stature as the top service for issuing e-invitations —but competitors are catching up.

There are but two kinds of people in the world: Those captivated by Baz Luhrmann's heady, postmodernist musical romp Moulin Rouge--and everybody else. Oddly, the film's initial soundtrack release may have been the project's most traditional element, marketing a slate of pop-star contributions that gave listeners a sometimes-skewed perspective on its true musical charms. This follow-up corrects much of that oversight, offering original film versions of "Sparkling Diamonds" (the lavish, Nicole Kidman-performed medley of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" and "Material Girl"), Jim Broadbent's and Richard Roxburgh's loopy take on "Like a Virgin," as well as the lively Offenbach "Can Can" parody "The Pitch (Spectacular Spectacular)." It also pays homage to the efforts of composer Craig Armstrong, whose quietly compelling underscore often binds the film's other far-flung musical influences together, be they stately orchestral readings of Elton John's "Your Song," a dramatic arrangement for Kidman and Ewan MacGregor's original film duet of "Come What May," or his dark, melodramatic take on Queen's "The Show Must Go On." The first Moulin Rouge soundtrack collection flaunted the film's bold, cross-genre ambitions; this one chronicles its nakedly emotional heart and soul. --Jerry McCulley

It would be easy to dismiss Kelly Osbourne's musical ambitions based on 1) Her royally obnoxious behavior on the family's MTV reality series, 2) Her overly manufactured debut album, Shut Up, and 3) That voice, which up until now, sounded like cats on a chalkboard. But spare a moment for the bratty singer's follow-up effort, a remarkably faithful new-wave throwback, which generously references everyone from Duran Duran to Missing Persons. Producer Linda Perry not only effectively revives the dramatic sounds and melodies of the era but offers songs that perfectly suit Osbourne's, er, constrained vocal range. The resulting disc is full of guilty pleasures like "Uh Oh" and "Redlight," tunes that should strike a chord with anyone that still gets a thrill out of happening upon basic cable reruns of "Sixteen Candles." --Aidin Vaziri
