Editorial Review:

Amazon.com Review:
Safe in the oven, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, and dishwasher, Pyrex is a special glass that withstands the shock of going from hot to cold, or vice versa, without breaking. That's important even with this set of liquid measuring cups, which can go into the oven to, say, warm a sauce and then be plunged into dishwater. The set consists of three measuring cups: a 1-cup, a 2-cup, and a 4-cup, all essential to a well-equipped kitchen. Large, dark blue markings in both U.S. and metric measurements make the cups easy to read. The cups are nonreactive (useful for acidic salad dressings) as well as stain- and odor-proof, and come with a two-year warranty against breakage from oven heat. --Fred Brack

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - As expected
They were exactly as expected. I'd have given them 5 stars except measuring cups just aren't that exciting ;^j

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Contrary to popular belief
* Pyrex is only a trade name ONLY now, licensed out to World Kitchen. It is NOT the original invention from 1915 that we all remember. It is NOT Pyrex BOROSILICATE glass anymore (after 1998). It is NOT safe to plunge into ice cold water from boiling oven anymore. It's also heavier because it's NOT PYREX anymore! After 1998, when Corning Glass stopped making Pyrex. (Think fiberoptics and bankruptcy, etc.) They sold off their 'household' glassmaking and it reformed as World Kitchen. PYREX is borosilicate glass and very resistant to wear and chip and cracking due to exposure to heat or quick changes in temperature. This is why Pyrex and Kimax and other borosilicate glasses are used for chemistry glassware. (Timex was to watches as these were to chemlabware! Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!) Corning has licensed the name of 'Pyrex' to World Kitchen, but nothing else about it is 'corning glass'. (As an aside - Corning made/makes great glass - of all kinds. A world-beater in their day. Management screwed them over going down the wrong economic road. Do check out their lovely glass museum in Corning, NY!) NOW, World Kitchen makes their 'pyrex' measuring cups out of ordinary soda-lime glass (kitchen drinking glass type). This is NOT safe to expose to heat changes!!!! (Think wear safety goggles - like you WERE working in a CHEM LAB!) I suspect that soda-lime glass is denser than borosilicate, but the actual measure wall thickness may be different now than before, and, thus, this accounts for some of the weight difference. If you want my opinion - find 'vintage' Pyrex Measuring Cups somehow and they will last multiple lifetimes. I have one of my mom's and she has two of her mom's measures. My new ones cannot hold a candle to the old ones (30 to 60 years old) and aren't worth a tinker's damn. Happy times in the kitchen! ...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - makes life easier
having these makes my kitchen time SO much easier! now that i'm used to having them i can't imagine just having one plastic one like i used to. the variety of different sizes is fantastic. non-porous equals extremely easy to clean, even with greasy stuff. the bigger one is nice for mixing dry ingredients and adding to other things. i also prefer the blue writing to the red.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Love it
* This is a great set. The best part is that they will nest inside each other for easy storage. I was hesitant about getting them, thinking I would have to store each one separately since they are glass and with handles. But, they fit nicely inside each other with the handles hanging over the edge.

Great buy.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Indispensable
Here's a really important piece of food prep equipment. I spend a lot of time winging it when I cook, but when I do have to measure my ingredients, I love these clear Pyrex cups in three tremendously useful sizes. They're heavy, but they're safe for boiling liquids, ice cold food and everything in between. Pyrex is crystal clear and cleans up beautifully. You can't ask for more.

The HP Compaq tc4400 convertible tablet offers decent performance and battery life, though we recommend adding more RAM.

Small and light enough for a shirt pocket, Samsung's Helix YX-M1 is a one-stop audio entertainment center with an XM radio, a digital music player, and room for 50 hours of tunes, but it comes up short on battery life.

You can say this about D.E.B.S.: director Angela Robinson’s 2005 feature isn’t very good, but it is surprisingly entertaining. The premise, which bears a passing resemblance to any number of previous films (from Heathers and Clueless to Charlie’s Angels and the Austin Powers franchise), involves a secret government agency recruiting young women as spies, based on their smarts, their ability to lie convincingly, and the fact that they look fetching in ultra-miniskirts. Four of the D.E.B.S. are then charged with collaring "criminal mastermind" Lucy Diamond (Jordana Brewster), who has returned to the States after hatching all manner of nefarious plots overseas. Then comes the twist: Diamond is gay, and one of our heroines, Amy Bradshaw (Sara Foster), unexpectedly finds herself falling in love with her. Out goes the espionage element; in comes the love story, and therein lies the surprise, as this burgeoning lesbian relationship is handled with unexpected sympathy, even tenderness. Sure, the acting, even by veteran grownups like Holland Taylor and Michael Clarke Duncan, is almost uniformly lame, and the script is silly; overall, the film would have to put on considerable weight to even be considered frothy. Still, D.E.B.S. isn’t a bad way to kill a couple of hours. DVD bonus features include a making-of featurette and commentary by Robinson and the cast. --Sam Graham

The teaming of Johnny Knoxville (Jackass: The Movie) and Seann William Scott (Dude, Where's My Car?) as well as the presence of the '70s-flavored car chases that were a specialty of the TV series guarantees that The Dukes of Hazzard will be even more lowbrow than the CBS TV series (1979-85) that inspired it. However, this brain-damaging comedy is more "rehash" than "remake," as good ol' Georgiaboys Luke Duke (Knoxville) and his cousin Bo (Scott) are frequently upstaged bythe General Lee, the Confederate-flagged '69 Charger that they drive, jump, race, and fly in as they smuggle moonshine for their Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson). Meanwhile, cousin Daisy Duke (Jessica Simpson) is reliably available to model her short-shorts (aka "Daisy Dukes") and awesome figure (and let's face it, Simpson's talents pretty much begin and end right there), while corrupt honcho Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds, who should know better) recruits a local NASCAR star to advance his wily scheme of converting Hazzard County into a strip mine. Director Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers) manages to mine some good-natured humor from the movie's oval-track detour and a few colorful supporting players (notably Kevin Hefferman as the Duke's pal Sheev). Otherwise, consider yourself warned: The Dukes of Hazzard is shameless Hollywood product at its most forgettable, trafficking in shameless white, rural Southern stereotypes. If you can make itto the end, there's a blooper reel to reward your endurance. --Jeff Shannon

DVD features
Yes, the unrated edition of The Dukes of Hazzard has nudity... but no, it's not of Jessica Simpson, but topless sorority girls. There are also two sets--"PG-13" and "unrated"--of deleted scenes and bloopers. The four minutes of unrated deleted scenes (supplementing the 25 minutes of "PG-13" deleted scenes) include more sorority girls and a menage à trois for Johnny Knoxville . The five minutes of unrated bloopers (the same amount as the "PG-13" bloopers) feature a few more girls but mostly bad language. Featurettes discuss the Daisy Duke short shorts (and show how you can make your own), car stunts, and the making of the movie (narrated by a cast member of the original TV series). --David Horiuchi
